The College of Communication Arts & Sciences’ WKAR public broadcasting was pleased to join in the fun at the Teddy Bear Hospital and Picnic, sponsored by the MSU Department of Pediatrics and Human Development on Saturday, October 6.
Children in attendance came carrying their teddy bears and other stuffed toys to be stitched up by MSU medical students. The aim of the event was to teach young children about health and help to reduce their anxieties about going to the doctor’s office.
WKAR's TV Station Manager Susi Elkins emceed the event, which included booths from departments from across MSU’s campus. In addition to "visiting the doctors" and picking up information on health and nutrition, families enjoyed an appearance by the MSU Women's Basketball coach Suzy Merchant, along with the MSU Women’s Basketball players and the Spartan Cheerleaders.
"WKAR's mission includes a strong focus on both education and children," said Elkins. "It makes great sense for us to be part of a campus-wide effort that includes both. It was a lot of fun!"
