A great big green and white welcome back to all of our students! This is one of the best times on campus. With the return of our students, the heart and soul of MSU are back. The energy, vitality and pace that returns with our students is always wonderful.
We’re looking forward to another BIG year in the College of Communication Arts & Sciences! And speaking of BIG, MSU is welcoming its largest incoming class in the history of the university with more new students exceeding the 8100 mark.
We had a great time with our new students at the College Welcome on Tuesday. The morning started out with the Student Organization Fair. New students had a chance to learn about our student groups and organizations and were able to ask questions. We strongly encourage our students to get hands-on experience by joining one (or two, or three) of our award-winning student groups. Quite simply, it’s a key component to a fully rounded collegiate educational experience.
New students also had a chance after the Student Org Fair to meet with their advisors, who many had already met at Academic Orientation Program (AOP) earlier this summer.
Lastly, students ended the day breaking up into their department majors to meet their peers and their future professors in those departments. Some of the groups did innovative activities like scavenger hunts, group photos and crazy exercises, like the Media Sandbox arrow exercise led by Karl Gude (video above).
I want to wish every student a wonderful year as they settle into their home away from home for the next few years. Thanks to our upper classmen who are making great efforts to show our new students the ropes in CAS.
For current students looking for an internship this semester, be sure to check in with Career Services in Club 181 (room 181) or check out myspartancareer.com. And of course, we know that all of you will attend every class this semester, especially the 8 a.m. Friday morning classes!
Finally, it would be remiss of me not to send best wishes to our Spartan football team who play the first game tonight against Boise State. This should prove to be an exciting season on the gridiron as we seek a Big Ten Championship this season! Go green!
