Summer 2017 CAS Global Scholarship Initiative

Through the generosity of an MSU donor, the College of Communication Arts & Sciences(ComArtSci) will grant one award to a ComArtSci student studying abroad in Summer 2017. This award will be applied to the recipient's program fee (up to $6000 maximum) for an MSU-sponsored study abroad program.

Completed applications are due to the Office of Academic and Student Affairs in 189 CAS.

To be eligible for this award, students must:

  • Be a declared major in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences
;
  • Have a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA
-Have a completed FAFSA on file with MSU for the 2016/17 academic year with demonstrated high financial need
;
  • Participate in a MSU-sponsored Spring 2017 study abroad program (you do not need to have applied yet, but if recipient does not end up participating, they forfeit this award).

ComArtSci Study Abroad Planning Grants

In Spring 2017 planning grants will be awarded to multiple first year ComArtSci students for participation in an MSU sponsored study abroad program before the student reaches 70 total credits complete. Recipients will be awarded $2000 towards the MSU Study abroad program of their choice.

To be eligible for consideration:

  1. Applicant must be a declared major in the College of Communication Arts & Sciences
  2. Must be applicant’s first time in college (did not transfer after a year at another institution - high school dual enrollment/AP credits are okay)
  3. Applicant must be in good academic standing (2.0 or higher cumulative GPA)
  4. Applicant must have documented financial need (FAFSA on file with MSU)
  5. Applicant must submit an essay detailing a time that they have overcome a challenge in their life. The essay must be typed and limited to two pages. The essay must accompany the completed application form.

If awarded the planning grant, a student must meet the following requirements to receive funding:

  1. Remain a declared major in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences
  2. Meet with the Coordinator of Study Abroad Initiatives and their major advisor to discuss relevant study abroad programs and how programs would complement degree requirement and/or career aspirations.
  3. Be accepted to and participate in a MSU sponsored study abroad program of any type before they reach 70 completed credits

Upon return to campus after study abroad participation, grant recipients must

  • Commit to a total of 10 hours of service to the College of Communication Arts and Sciences and the Office of Study Abroad between return from study abroad program and graduation.
  • Submit a written testimonial and 2-3 photos showcasing your experience abroad. This is an important way we can communicate to our scholarship donors how much their support means to your educational goals and future plans. While encouraging their continued support, your stories will also inform future participants about the incredible study abroad opportunities here at MSU.
