Media and Information Scholarships

2017 Scholarship applications are now OPEN. Application deadline is Monday, February 27, 2017.

Scholarship applications are for scholarships that would be awarded for the 2017-2018 academic year. In order to qualify for a scholarship, you must be taking classes next year (Fall 2017 - Spring 2018). DO NOT APPLY IF YOU ARE GRADUATING SPRING OR SUMMER 2017.

The 2017 Scholarship Award Ceremony will be Thursday, April 6, 2017, at 6pm.

You will need:

  • To fill out the MediaInfo Scholarship Application Form online (all other materials are turned into Room 409, Com Arts building or emailed to tisminfo@msu.edu)
  • Cover letter- addressed to the Media and Information Scholarship Committee (include the GPA and MediaInfo GPA in your letter)
  • Resume
  • One letter of recommendation (from someone outside of the MediaInfo scholarship committee) - can be mailed or have the writer email it to tisminfo@msu.edu
  • Any other Scholarship Application Requirements (please double check the specifics of the scholarship(s) you are applying for)

  1. Incoming Media and Information Freshman or current students from Detroit Public High Schools or any public school in Michigan.

Scholarships for Undergrad Students

  1. U.S. Citizen
Kevin R Markwardt Award
  1. Junior or Senior
  2. 3.0 GPA
Michael A Chaprnka Endowed Scholarship Award
  1. Sophomore or older
  2. 2.5 GPA
Communication Arts & Sciences Scholarship in Telecommunication
  1. Preference for Audio students
Robert J. & Joanne P. Kobel and Susan Meurer Expendable Scholarship
  1. Student considering a career in electronic media including broadcasting, cable, or telecommunication
Gary Reid Professional Development Fund
  1. Junior, senior, or graduate student
  2. Student studying audio, radio, television or film
  3. Preference will be given to applicants desiring an internship in the Los Angeles area, although in the absence of such a candidate these funds may be used to support internship work anywhere in the United States outside of the State of Michigan
  4. The award can be used for, but not limited to, housing, transportation, tuition and other required expenses incurred during the internship experience.
Thomas A. Muth, Sr. Endowed Fund in Telecommunication, Information Studies and Media
  1. Undergraduate or graduate student
  2. Preferred: Students that demonstrate financial need, as determined by the federal government, according to its policies and procedures
  3. Preferred: Minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4 point scale)
  4. Preferred: Participate in activities that enhance career opportunities (e.g. networking events, internships, professional association memberships, attending professional conferences)
Maxine and John (Jake) Ferris Global Award in Technologies & Applications
  1. Scholarship funds are to help cover the cost of travel and other related expenses associated with participating in the ICT Global Corps.
MSU Telecasters Fund
  1. Active member of Telecasters student group
  2. 3.0 GPA
Larry Estlack Memorial Scholarship
  1. Undergrad or grad
  2. Preference for students in broadcasting

  1. Graduate student studying TV production or Media Arts
Thomas F. Baldwin Endowed Fellowship
  1. Grad Student
Nancy Seidman Dempsey Memorial Scholarship
  1. Studying Electronic or New Media
  2. Preference for Diverse Background
  3. Preference for educational television/film focus
