Linked B.A. - M.A. Degree in Media & Information Studies

This Bachelor's-Master's (BA-MA) Linked program allows undergraduate students pursing a B.A. or B.S. in Media and Information at Michigan State University to count a number of their 400-level undergraduate courses (note: conditions apply and are described below) toward the Master's program in Media and Information(TISM), This opportunity allows students to complete the required coursework in just one year, and results in significant cost savings in both direct (e.g., tuition fees) and indirect (e.g., housing) expenses during their studies.

The TISM department welcomes applications from undergraduate Media and Information students, who are in the process of completing at least 86 credits during the academic semester in which they apply to the BA-MA Linked program. Applications must be submitted prior to the final semester as a Media and Information undergraduate student. Admission to the program requires a minimum undergraduate Grade-Point Average (GPA) of 3.50, a Statement of Goals for the Master's degree, Graduate Record Examination scores, at least two letters of recommendation from faculty in the Department of Telecommunication, Information Studies and Media, and an approved program of study for the master's degree at the time of admission.

To be admitted to the Human Computer Interaction (HCI) Concentration, applicants must have already completed CAS204, TC331, TC349, and TC359 obtaining a grade of at least 3.0 in each of these courses.

To be admitted to the Media and Information Management (MIM) Concentration, applicants must have already completed TC300, TC355, TC361, and TC452.

The number of Media and Information majors admitted into the linked degree program will be limited by availability. Admission to the BA-MA Linked Program allows the application of up to 9 credits toward the Master's program for qualifying 400-level and above coursework taken at the undergraduate level at Michigan State University or an external, accredited institution. The number of approved credits, not to exceed 9, are applied toward the credit requirement of the Master's degree. No 400-level courses with a grade lower than 3.0 will count toward the master's degree. Credits obtained from 400-level Pass/Fail courses and internships will not count toward the MA degree. Credits applied to the BA-MA Linked program cannot be applied to another graduate degree program at Michigan State University.
