MSUFCU gift to help students 2 ways

MSU Federal Credit Union is a longtime supporter of Michigan State University. Recently, MSUFCU made a gift to the MSU College of Communication Arts & Sciences to support student innovation and career development.

The gift will be utilized to fund a mobile game developed by CAS students and also the college's Speed Networking event in February.

April Clobes, MSUFCU executive vice president and Chief Operating Officer, said the gift was a good fit and will help the credit union and students at the same time.

Part of the gift will be used to develop a mobile game to help students better understand how to manage their finances.

"At the credit union, we aren't able to reach all of our students to educate them one on one about finances, so hopefully they are learning about how to make financial decisions at the same time they are playing this game, which should be available by the end of the semester," Clobes.

Through this gift, MSUFCU will also be a major sponsor of the college's Speed Networking event, which Clobes said is a wonderful event.

"We do a significant amount of hiring each year, and this event is a good match for us and for students actively seeking employment. As someone who participates, I find this event to be very rewarding, and I hope I can answer all of the excellent career questions the students have," she said.

Clobes said the MSUFCU gift is meaningful to her as an alumna of the College of Communication Arts & Sciences.

"I'm very proud of MSU and the college. I had a great experience in the college, and it provided a great background for me to advance in my career. It's important to give back. The college has programs that are so broad reaching that there are opportunities for everyone to get involved, from advertising to mobile games," she said.

Clobes said her MSU degrees prepared her in multiple ways. "The teamwork approach at the university pays off in the workplace. The college is preparing students to have multiple skillsets, which is important when I'm hiring. I'm very proud of MSU and I'm thrilled to be part of a company helping to support the university. There are relationships I developed here that last a lifetime," she said.

MSUFCU supports MSU students in many ways, including providing hundreds of study abroad scholarships through an endowment and providing arts education and programs through the MSUFCU Institute for Arts & Creativity through an endowment.
