3D Camps
From Jurassic Park and Finding Nemo to Call of Duty and Wii Sports, 3D graphics have become the medium of choice for Hollywood special effects, animated storytelling, and game graphics.
This summer, MSU is offering two high school summer camps in 3D production. Students can partake in both the camps sequentially or just take one of the camps. The camps include:
Camp 1: 3D Modeling & Animation Camp (July 14-18, 2008)
Emphasis in this camp is placed on creative and technical development of 3D models as they can be applied to video games, animation and special effects. Using the industry standard Autodesk Maya software, students learn 3D polygon modeling to create virtual objects and characters that can populate games, illustrations, and animations. A variety of projects, including the modeling of environments, objects, and characters, improve students' artistic abilities and technical proficiency. Students will also conceptualize, storyboard, animate, light and render their own short 3D animations.
Camp 2: 3D Video Game Level Design (July 21-25, 2008)
Today's video games leverage modern hardware and software technology to create lush, interactive three-dimensional worlds. Level design is where the rubber meets the road in these modern video games. That is, level design is where the gameplay, storyline, art, and technology all come together to create the game world that the player experiences. This camp teaches students the process, tools, and techniques of 3D level design. Throughout the week, students work with the latest game development tools to build levels for their very own 3D game.
