Most glorious journalism superpower logo.The 2012 Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Region 4 Spring Conference: Journalism Rebooted brought journalists together last weekend to explore the ever-changing world of print, digital, broadcast and other forms of information media, discussing everything from online media to the effects of social media.

The two-day event was held Fri., March 23, and Sat., March 24. Friday’s lecture, by Verizon Wireless Manager Solutions Architect Marion Arnett, focused on the way that mobile devices are being used to create new forms of news outlets. Saturday had an array of lectures discussing topics such as social media trends, mobile apps, how to build a magazine and how to get a job in journalism today.

Among the guest speakers were Kate Jacobson of The State News, Vincent Duffy of Michigan Public Radio and Louise Knott Ahern of the Lansing State Journal.

A heated lecturing ensues.SPJ strives to bring Spartan journalists together in a community where all members can grow in their endeavors as students and professional journalists. Members have the opportunity to meet professionals from the field, learn about internship and training opportunities and build a community centered around the ideas of free speech and free flow of information.
