Go Green, Glow Green

MSU Homecoming 2011 Poster: Glow Green, Go WhiteThis week, there is a special glow on campus. It's all because of MSU Homecoming, a special time for the MSU family of students, faculty and alum. This weekend is so big this year that CAS is celebrating over a three-day period.

The spotlight fell on a special alum last night, when the university honored W. Clark Bunting (BA '77 Advertising and MA '84 Communication) at the MSU Grand Awards. Clark has demonstrated personal and professional generosity in ways that serve as an example for us all. On top of being one of the most dedicated Spartans I know, he is also the president and general manager of Discovery Channel. He cares deeply about MSU and our ability to offer future students opportunities that will shape the rest of their lives.

Clark is part of our College Alumni Board, which is gathering today and has ambitious goals. The board has several major goals this year: to engage our alumni and help the college prepare for the capital campaign. We are also planning a field trip to the WKAR Studios, now part of the college.

After the board meeting, we are all heading down the hall to the Media Sandbox Inaugural Lecture, featuring Clark and fellow award-winning alum Craig Murray (BA '76 Advertising), the CEO of mOcean in Hollywood. They are delivering a thought-provoking talk "Building a Better Sandbox: The Art of Storytelling in the 21st Century." You won't want to miss this exclusive collaborative presentation from 3:30-5 p.m. in room 147.  If you’re reading this blog after the event, visit the Media Sandbox website where the presentation will be posted.

But there's more! This evening is the College Homecoming Bash at Beggar's Banquet from 6-8 p.m. It will be wonderful to enjoy great food and the best view of the MSU Homecoming Parade down Abbot Road with alumni, faculty and students from our college, and get ready for the big game tomorrow night against Wisconsin.
