Former professor and chair of the Department of Advertising (now the Department of Advertising and Public Relations) Mary Alice Shaver passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at the age of 74. Shaver was an esteemed academic and worked as a professor and administrator in the areas of advertising, journalism and mass communications in North Carolina, Michigan, Florida and Sweden.
In addition to her work at various colleges and universities, Shaver served as the president of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication and as president of the American Academy of Advertising. She also authored the book, Make the Sale! Selling Media with Marketing, and was the co-author of a forthcoming book on advertising regulation around the world.
