The American Advertising Academy (AAA) acknowledged what we have known for some time now: Jef Richards, chair and professor in the department of Advertising, Public Relations & Retailing, is the best in the business!
Last week, Jef was honored with the Academy's most prestigious award – The Fellow Award. The Fellow Award is presented to a member for their lifetime of achievement in the advancement of advertising scholarship, education and service to the discipline. Only 34 recipients have received this distinctive honor.
Jef was nominated by his peers and received letters of support from faculty at universities across the country, including Marquette, Memphis, Nebraska, Texas, and Wisconsin (if we were choosing NCAA basketball brackets, Jef would be our #1 seed).
The Academy's membership consists of advertising professors from around the world. Requirements for consideration for the award are stringent. Jef's scholarly contributions to advertising education and the profession, as well as his involvement with the Academy, have been well documented.
His achievements include authoring or co-authoring more than 65 articles, books and book chapters, as well as serving on the editorial boards of numerous professional journals including the Journal of Advertising, the Journal of Current Issues & Research in Advertising, the Journal of Interactive Advertising, the Advertising & Society Review, and several others. He is a past president of the American Academy of Advertising and member of the Advertising Educational Foundation's Board of Directors.
Jef's mentor, Ivan Preston, former professor at University of Wisconsin, wrote, "I'm sure his receipt of the Fellow Award will be widely approved and, in fact, applauded."
On behalf of the CAS faculty, staff, students and alumni, congratulations, Jef. We are honored and proud to have you on our team.
