Fake News: A Quello Center Roundtable Discussion

This roundtable seeks to enable a multi-disciplinary discussion on information flows and their effects in highly interconnected computer mediated communication environments. Using the phenomenon of “fake news” as a starting point, faculty from across the College of Communication Arts and Sciences will discuss the challenges of examining information dissemination and absorption in advanced communications systems and its potential effects. Topics covered will include, but not be limited to:

• Methodological and theoretical perspectives
• Detection and categorization of fake news
• Formation of mental models of reality
• Effects on individuals and society
• Challenges for communications researchers

The Quello Center discussion will be kicked off by:

Prof. Esther Thorson, School of Journalism
Prof. David Ewoldsen, Department of Media and Information

Followed by a general discussion. All faculty and graduate students are welcome and encouraged to attend.
