Departments Ready to Host Award Ceremonies

Posted on: March 18, 2014

PrintAs the academic year starts to wind down and students prepare for their last month of spring semester classes, it is time for departments to recognize students for all their accomplishments made throughout the year in the pursuit of their educational and professional goals.

This year, these four CAS departments will host the following student award ceremonies:

Advertising + Public Relations

The AD+PR Awards Ceremony is Friday, March 21, at 11:30 a.m. in CAS Room 147. A reception will follow at 12:30 p.m. This year's master of ceremonies will be Instructor Bob Kolt. The department has awarded a little over 230 students in the last five years who are pursuing careers from media advertising to marketing.

Communicative Sciences and Disorders

After the 2014 Herbert J. and E. Jane Oyer Lecture on Thursday, April 3, at 4:30 p.m., CSD will award outstanding students the Graduate Office Fellowship Funds award, Valerie V. Wenner Endowment Scholarship and the Leo Deal International Enrichments Funds award. Scholarships and awards are bestowed upon those who participate in areas such as research, study abroad and international exchange programs.

Telecommunication, Information Studies and Media

The TISM Awards Ceremony is Wednesday, April 9, at 6:30 p.m. at the University Club. Along with students, donors will be in attendance when faculty hand out awards, such as the Thomas A. Muth Sr. Endowed Fund in TISM and the Maxine and John (Jake) Ferris Global Award.

In the last five years, TISM has supported around 90 students. The endowments and scholarships ultimately wish to partner with students who pursue careers in areas such as television, production and media arts.

School of Journalism

The Journalism Awards Convocation is scheduled for Sunday, April 13, at 3 p.m. in the University Club Ballroom. Faculty will present scholarships and awards, such as the Capital News Service Connections Awards and the Gordon A. Sabine Scholarship. The award ceremony is being held in conjunction with the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame induction ceremony and banquet.

An average of 400 journalism students in each of the past few years were given scholarships from the School of Journalism, CAS and MSU at some point in their program.
