ArtPrize began this week, which means artists from around the world are getting international attention. This year, for the first time, one of our faculty members is among the thousands of artists.
Assistant Professor Henry Brimmer's work "Touch Wood" is on exhibit at the Grand Rapids Art Museum. You can view his work at the GRAM through October 9, and I highly suggest you do. ArtPrize is an open art competition based in Grand Rapids that awards nearly $450,000 to winners. The contest runs Sept. 21 through Oct. 9 and will be decided solely on public votes. Henry is among 1,582 artists from 36 countries that will participate in this year’s event. He is one of only 32 artists whose work will be showcased in the Grand Rapids Art Museum.
Brimmer is a key faculty member of MSU Media Sandbox, a new collaborative within the College of Communication Arts and Sciences that fosters creativity across disciplines within the college and the university. The Media Sandbox will include an integrated media arts curriculum, visiting artists, special events, creative projects by faculty and students and more.
We in the college are so proud of Henry. I encourage you to go see his artwork at the Grand Rapids Art Museum and vote for him. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a Spartan ArtPrize winner?
