Impressed by the work of Michigan State University's Advertising students for demonstrating promise in creative advertising, The One Club, a nonprofit organization based in New York City, allotted a $2,000 scholarship to the Advertising + Public Relations department, which was awarded to senior Advertising student Madeline Rosemurgy.
"The advertising students at Michigan State have shown distinct promise in their participation in One Club events such as our annual One Show Young Ones Competition and Education Festival," said Emily Grotheer, One Club Education Director. "We consider it an honor to recognize the accomplishments and potential of an MSU student with this year's One Club Scholarship."
For the past three years, Advertising students have traveled to New York City with Assistant Professor of Advertising and Media Sandbox faculty member Henry Brimmer, attending One Club events, such as One Club Creative Week where they show their portfolios to art directors and tour advertising agencies.
"Traveling to New York is a major PR move...to have presence there...be seen...and to start a buzz among the agencies that our students are talented and deserving of jobs (or internships)," Brimmer said.
Brimmer suggested Rosemurgy to the creative track faculty of the Advertising + Public Relations department to receive the One Club Scholarship. She was selected based on her outstanding creative abilities, hard work and dedication.
"She is a top student...talented, hard working, passionate and dedicated," Brimmer said. "She has gone through the entire creative track, and that shows. Madeline is now an intern at the Broad Museum and the Media Sandbox."
Rosemurgy was happy to learn she had won the scholarship.
"I'm so appreciative to be awarded this scholarship," she said. "I've worked hard over my four years at MSU and it's really paying off! I'm anxious to attend the One Show Education Festival in New York this spring to represent our program and connect with industry professionals - it'll be a great way to wrap up my MSU career."
Founded in 1975, The One Club promotes excellence in advertising and design in all its forms. In 1995, it established an education department, dedicated to fostering the creative talents of advertising students nationwide. The department administers scholarships to outstanding students in advertising programs at a variety of schools across the country and produces an annual College Competition.
Students who would like to become involved with the organization can attend The One Club's Creative Boot Camp in Detroit in the spring of 2014, which will be hosted by MSU.
A current opportunity includes the 2014 One Club Young Ones Competition, which is a competition for college students to enter their work for a chance to win cash prizes. Entries are due Friday, March 7, 2014. An Education Festival also takes place annually in New York City each May, offering portfolio reviews, networking events, the Young Ones Awards Ceremony and more.Share via these networks:
