- Don Braunagel (BA '63 Journalism) passed away on June 3rd, 2011. A longtime theater critic and editor, Braunagel worked in Michigan several years before moving to San Diego in 1980, where he developed a following and a reputation as a respected writer in the arts community. He was an assistant entertainment editor at The Tribune in the 1980s, was a founding member of the San Diego Critics Circle, and wrote for the Los Angeles Times, Daily Variety, and San Diego Magazine.

- Thomas Riordan (BA '47 Journalism) passed away on July 6, 2011. He was a former managing editor at the Jackson Citizen Patriot, an assistant editor of the Detroit Edison employee magazine, editor and publisher of the weekly Greenwich Enterprise-Review in Ohio and general manager of the Marysville Printing Co. Thomas also owned The Tecumseh Herald for ten years winning numerous Michigan Press Association awards. He received the MSU Alumni Service Award from CAS in 1994, and was inducted into The State News Alumni Association “Hall of Fame” Class of 2008. Thomas was a WWII veteran.
- Charlie Cain (BA '73 Journalism) passed away on July 9, 2011. He was a former managing editor of The State News and third generation journalist. Charlie was a Detroit News editor and reporter and one of the most respected and longest-serving members of the Lansing Press Corps. He also worked as capitol correspondent at WJBK-TV in the early 1980s and served as Lansing Bureau Chief for more than two decades until leaving in 2009. Charlie then worked as a consultant with Truscott Rossman, a Lansing marketing communications firm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts made in Charlie’s memory are directed to the School of Journalism, College of Communication Arts and Sciences, 287 CAS Building, E. Lansing, MI 48824.

- Roger Kullenberg (BA '52 Journalism) passed away on April 30, 2011. Kullenberg had a 50-plus year career in journalism and co-authored two books about the history of Kalamazoo and the Kalamazoo Chamber of Commerce. He previously worked for the Kalamazoo Gazette. Kullenberg also served on many community boards and along with his wife, helped to organize the Kalamazoo chapter of Parents of Children With Cancer in Southwestern Michigan.
- Dr. Thomas Baldwin (Ph.D. '66 Communication) passed away April 25, 2011. He was a specialist in broadcast and telecommunications policy research and scholarship. Professor Baldwin was a faculty member at MSU for 38 years. He also chaired the committee that originated the Mass Media program in CAS and was director of the program for 18 years. Additionally, he was the acting chair of the Department of Telecommunication and was a senior fellow with the Quello Center. After retiring Dr. Baldwin remained active in the college, serving on the CAS Alumni Board from 2003 to 2010.

- John Berry (BA '50 Journalism) passed away on March 18, 2011. Berry opened his own advertising company and a franchise of the gift and collectibles store, the Mole Hole, in the 1970s. Before retiring, he served as vice president of marketing for Steak 'n Shake in Indianapolis.

- Ivan Preston (MA ’61 Communication, Ph.D. ’64 Communication) passed away March 1, 2011. Preston was a journalism professor at the University of Wisconsin Madison from 1968 to 1999.

- Bruce “Bud” Moore (BA ‘55 Journalism) passed away on January 15, 2011. Bud started his newspaper career with the Lansing State Journal, then with the Pontiac Press and Grand Rapids Herald. He went on to be Promotion Manager of the Ann Arbor News, where he worked for 22 years. Bud was also a WWII U.S. Navy veteran.
- Jerry Lee Morton (BA ‘65 Journalism) died January 24, 2011. Jerry was a former editorial-page editor and photojournalist for the Enquirer in the 1970s and previously taught journalism at MSU. He spent time in both Mexico and Romania, and his Jerry Lee Press published photo-essay books of people he met in both places. A decade ago, Jerry also published "The Sound of Words."
- Arnold Bransdorfer (BA ‘49 Speech and Theater) passed away February 4, 2011. His career past involved both journalism and public relations, where he worked at many places such as the the Mount Clemens Monitor-Leader and the Lansing State Journal. Arnold was also an aide to Michigan Senate Republican majority leader Emil Lockwood from 1965 to 1972 and recently operated a photo lab until retiring in 1992. Arnold was inducted into the State News Hall of Fame in 2008 and was a U.S. Navy WWII veteran.
- John Robert “Bob” Dawson (BA ‘42 Journalism) passed away January 1, 2011. In 1956 he opened the advertising firm of J. Robert Dawson and Associates and from 1965-1985, he served as the Director and then Vice President of Public Affairs at the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. He also taught public relations courses at Cleary College and Wayne State University. Additionally, Bob was very active in his community, serving as the President or Chairman on numerous organization boards, and was a decorated World War II veteran.

- Steve Repko (BA ’74 Journalism) passed away December 31, 2010. Repko recently worked as a sports copy editor and baseball columnist for the Oakland Press. He was also a member of the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA) and former sports editor of the Ypsilanti Press. Repko had over 35 years of sports writing experience.

- Patrick V. Ford (BA '71 Television and Radio) passed away on May 20, 2010. In addition to his degree at MSU, he also graduated from Wayne State University Law School and served as a district attorney. Ford also narrated air shows around the U.S and Canada and was honored to be a narrator at the annual U.S. Navy Blue Angels homecoming show in Pensacola, FL for 30 years.
- Khristine Florante-Elliott (BA '91 Journalism) passed away June 27, 2010. After graduating with honors from MSU with a bachelor's degree in journalism, she worked for the Sturgis Journal for three years and then moved to the Battle Creek Enquirer for 11 years.

- Hal R. Taylor (BA ’60 Communication) died April 11, 2010. Taylor joined the USDA in Washington in 1960 and worked on projects in Egypt, Austria and the Dominican Republic. He became deputy director of the agency’s office of agricultural information in 1968 and was later named director.
- Peter Williams (BA ’03 Journalism) passed away March 28, 2010.
- Kathryn Youberg (BA ’53 Journalism) passed away February 16, 2010. Youberg worked in journalism for a year and went on to teach middle school for 10 years in Texas and Colorado.
- Donald G. Williamson (PhD ’60 Speech and Theater), retired professor of speech pathology and audiology at the University of Missouri, passed away January 12, 2010.
- Harold Meyers Willard (BA ’52 Journalism), retired newspaper editor who had worked for The Washington Post and The Evening Sun, died December 24, 2009.
- Ariel Melchior, Jr. (BA ’62 Journalism), a former publisher of The Virgin Islands Daily News, passed away November 28, 2009. Melchior worked at The Daily News for more than 50 years, making his way first as a carrier, then as a type-setter, reporter, and editor before attaining the title of publisher in 1977. He was also a community leader and served in the 9th V.I. Legislature from 1971 to 1973.
- Jay Johnson (MA ’70 Television and Radio), former congressman and Green Bay TV anchor, passed away October 17, 2009.

- Judith A. Rademacher (BA '50 Journalism) passed away August 15, 2009 in Peachtree City, GA.

- Lori Hall Steele (BA '86 Journalism) passed away November 19, 2008. Hall Steele’s nearly 3,000 features, essays and news stories have appeared in print and online publications nationwide.
- Eugene E. Telman II a.k.a “Dave Walker” (BA '78 Telecommunication) passed away November 29, 2008, surrounded by his wife, family and friends. He is fondly remembered as a mentor and friend through his long career at WPBN/WTON-TV, the Traverse City-based NBC affiliate.
- Michael Cody (BA '71 Journalism) passed away January 1, 2009.
- Felix A. "Fil" Racette (BA '49 Journalism) passed away on January 2, 2009.
- Dorothy Silver Chamow (BA ’49 Journalism) passed away on June 30, 2008.
- Louise Rothter Horst (BA '48 Human Ecology), a Grand Rapids Herald reporter in the early 1940s recently passed away.
- Beverly T. Denbow (BA ’68 Journalism) passed away on April 5, 2009. She was a noted book editor and journalist who served as chief copy editor of historic and non-fiction books.
- Joe K. Mitschelen (BA ’85 Advertising) passed away on May 22, 2009 in Kirkland, WA. He served in the Army Reserves for 27 years achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 2006.
- Donald Campbell (BA '46 Journalism), a former newspaper owner and publisher, passed away on February 8, 2009.
